Singing priests pen £1m record deal

Three Catholic priests from Northern Ireland today signed a £1m recording contract with major label Sony BMG.Father Eugene O’Hagan, 48, his brother Martin, 45, and their old school friend David Delargy, 44, who all hold parishes in the diocese of Down and Connor, penned the deal by the steps of London’s Westminster Cathedral. The singing trio are collectively known as The Priests and said that they would give any money which they earned from making music to charity.

The group have it written into their contract that they will be allowed to break off from promotional duties to deal with parish work such as funerals. Fr Eugene, of the Parish of Ballyclare and Ballygowan, described signing the deal as “God’s design”. He added that the trio have not yet decided which charities will benefit from their musical talents. Fr Martin, of the Parish of Cushendun, explained the reason behind the special exception clause in their contract which allows them to carry out their parish duties. He said: “Our work means a great deal to us. We are priests first and foremost. Our work will be at the heart of our plans.” Fr David, of the Parish of Hannahstown, added: “Singing is very much what we do. This is bringing it to a wider audience. We are singing sacred music, continuing what we have always been doing.”

The group described their musical tastes as “very Catholic” adding that Il Divo were amongst their favourite acts, while Fr David named ‘Parallel Lines’ by New York Punk/ New Wave outfit Blondie as the first ever record he bought. The trio were heard singing by an Irish pop musician who asked them to make a demo which he took to Sony BMG. Nick Raphael, managing director of Epic Records, part of Sony BMG, negotiated the signing. He said: “Their voices are incredible. I said: ‘I think we’ve found three pop stars’. I’m extremely excited. They’re going to record their record. They’re going to be wonderful global superstars. The reaction has been incredible, huge.

“The quality of their singing is quite scary.”

The priests’ forthcoming record, which they said is as yet un-named, is planned for release around November.

Ireland’s entry to The Eurovision

April 19th, 2008

Ireland’s entry to this year’s Eurovision song contest is a puppet. Dustin the Turkey from Childern’s TV show the “Den”.

He’s hilarious, especially funny over the years and as famous as Bono in Ireland but has state TV gone mad. Ireland has won SEVEN Eurovision’s, the most by any country. Riverdance exploded from the telecast some years ago during a break from the contest action. It seems like a kick in the teeth of the home grown music industry as pointed out by Phil Coulter, Shea Healy and other songwriters.

Here’s the video (click the pic) including the judging,  I think the finals will be “big news” at least in Ireland and on the turkey farm in Donnybrook.

Giggles

Dear Tech Support.

Last year I upgraded from Boyfriend 5.0 to Husband 1.0 and noticed a distinct slow down in overall system performance — particularly in the flower and jewelry applications, which operated flawlessly under Boyfriend 5.0. In addition, Husband 1.0 uninstalled many other valuable programs, such as Romance 9.5 and Personal Attention 6.5 and then installed undesirable programs such as NFL 5.0, NBA 3.0,and Golf Clubs 4.1.

Conversation 8.0 no longer runs, and Housecleaning 2.6 simply crashes the system. I’ve tried running Nagging 5.3 to fix these problems, but to no avail. What can I do?

Signed, Desperate

Dear Desperate:

First keep in mind, Boyfriend 5.0 is an Entertainment Package, while Husband 1.0 is an Operating System.

Please enter the command: ‘I Thought You Loved Me.exe’, try to download Tears 6.2 and don’t forget to install the Guilt 3.0 update. If that application works as designed, Husband 1.0 should then automatically run the applications Jewelry 2.0 and Flowers 3.5. But remember,
overuse of the above application can cause Husband 1.0 to default to Grumpy Silence 2.5, Happy Hour 7.0 or Beer 6.1. Beer 6.1 is a very bad program that will download the Snoring Loudly Beta.

Whatever you do, DO NOT install Mother-in-law 1.0 It runs a virus in the background that will eventually seize control of all your system resources. Also, do not attempt to reinstall the Boyfriend 5.0 program. These are unsupported applications and will crash Husband 1.0

In summary, Husband 1.0 is a great program, but it does have limited memory and cannot learn new applications quickly. You might consider buying additional software to improve memory and performance. We recommend Food 3.0 and Hot Lingerie 7.7.

Good Luck, Tech Support

We had a chance to visit a recording studio (FTM) today to tape an radio interview sponsored by BING Energy Drink. A fantastic
drink that’s fairly new and a Colorado original, just like The Indulgers.
We’re not sure when the spot airs yet, but next time your at King Sooper’s shopping, get some BING into ya.

From a review by THE DENVER POST

BADA-BING!

Petey’s Bing Energy Drink

$2.50. King Soopers and other Denver-area retailers and restaurants.

There aren’t many chances to honor Colorado’s famed cherry crop and get a little energy boost too. But Denver-based Inspiration Beverage Co. has popped up with Bing, a 40-calorie cherry-juice drink jacked up with taurine, caffeine, ginkgo biloba, ginseng, guarana, acai berry and flax seed to get you going. Drink it straight out of the can, over ice, or follow Petey’s mixology guide and shake yourself up with the “Bada Bing,” a shot of Tuaca and a couple of shots of Bing, on the rocks.
