THE BEGINNING
Damien McCarron was raised in
Dublin (Ireland) and in the early nineties found himself the latest
in a long line of Irish people seeking opportunity in America.
The Celtic Tiger hadn't come to Ireland yet.
McCarron choose to settle in Denver, Colorado and soon after
recorded a debut CD "A Matter Of Indulgence".
Produced by Mike Nile (Spirit) at The Alley in Wheat Ridge and mastered
in LA at Capitol Records,
the solo project laid a path to the formation of the Indulgers in 1998.
After moving home to Colorado and the sudden,
tragic death of Randy
California
Mike Nile's time with Spirit
became the beginning of The Indulgers and the release of the debut
"In Like Flynn" in 1999. The forming of ranks with Renee Fine
(violin), Pat Murphy jr (drums)
and Chris Murtaugh (bass), the orginal line-up for the debut
release remains intact today.
Mike Nile swapped his bass to play guitar, mandolin, whistles,
harmonica, electric bagpipe with McCarron write and produce the "sound"
of The Indulgers.
The Indulgers were elected Westword's World Music Award Winners in 1999
and awarded the Just Plain Folks Music Award for
Ethnic CD and Celtic Song (title track "In Like Flynn") in 2000.
THE MIDDLE
In 2001 The band recieved the regional award from hapiskratch.com as
Independent Band/Year Colorado
with the release of "Tan & Black", a darker side of the Celtic
sound first created with "Flynn"
The Indulgers began travelling to the first of many national World
music, Irish and Celtic Festivals in 2003 and playing
many cities and towns, touring the western United States non-stop.
With occasional eastcoast tours mixed in over the course of the next
few years and
trips to San Francisco's Oyster Fest
Chicago's Gaeilge Park, a show at Red Rocks in Colorado and
the release of another three CD's
"Celtic Tiger", "High Road To Heaven" and "Chase The Ghost" the
Indulgers kept busy.
THE RECENT
In 2007 The Indulgers embarked on an Irish Tour, linking up with Johnny
Fean of Horslips
and in 2008 won the Westword World Music Award for a second time
on the back of "Out In The West", the sixth CD.
During 2009 the Indulgers played, the KCIF in Missouri (America's No. 1
Irish Music Festival)
and to crowds around it's home state with a summer concert tour.
The band is currenty working on it's seventh release "Whiskey Tonight"
and planning
gigs from it's Boulder home base "Conor O'Neill's" where The Indulgers
perform once a month,
every month and from it's Wheat Ridge studio "the Grapevine". Details
of another Irish tour in 2010
are soon to follow and continue the adventure for Colorado's original
Irish Rock band.
